The Dewey Theatre was hastily built after the Great Fire of 1898 - too hastily perhaps. One evening in January 1916, heavy snow cause the roof to collapse, completely destroying the theater just hours after crowds had left an evening showing of "The Secretary of Frivolous Affairs." Originally owned and operated by the Conner family, the Salt Lake House served as a boarding house for miners until it burned down in the fire of 1898. The Park City High School was built at 1255 Park Avenue on the site of the old Lincoln School in the 1930s. When the new high school was built on Kearns Blvd, this building fell into disrepair. Julius Frankel came from Germany in 1881, starting his business in another building that was destroyed by the great fire of 1898.
